Although not officially open to the public, the archaeological site of Eleutherna is flooded every summer by hundreds of visitors from Greece and abroad. The important archaeological discoveries and beautifully conserved site, with footpaths, resting areas, and signs, attract students and scholars of many disciplines from Greek and foreign universities and foreign archaeological schools and institutes,as well as tourists of various nationalities.
Both the landscape and the archaeological site enchant individual travellers and organized groups, and many guides incorporate Eleutherna in their program of archaeological visits to Crete. Important personalities from Greece and abroad have included a visit to Eleutherna in their trip to Crete, some even plan their visit to Crete in order to admire Eleutherna, a unique archaeological site at the foot of Mount Ida, where the almighty Zeus was born.
